Latest images not showing up / WPEngine

Sounds to me like the transients might be stuck in the database. I would search the wp_options table for your transients and delete them by hand.

The other option is to change the transient name:

I tried to delete the transients from the database.

DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name LIKE (‘_transient_%’);
DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name LIKE (‘_site_transient_%’);

I also used plugin Transient manager to remove the Instagram transient (instagram-a5-mommyworst) by hand and no luck.

If I use Safari’s network inspector the only request to Instagram is the one for the image:

I also tried renaming the transient to “instagram-a55-” and it still does not work.

Would you have any other ideas?

The only other thing I can think of is that the transients are being cached by WPEngine in a specific database cache. I think the clear cache button they provide to you is to clear a Varnish (full page) cache.

Perhaps worth opening a ticket with them to see what they do with transients and caching.

The problem is not with transients. After a bit of debugging it seems that the following line:

wp_remote_get( ‘https://instagram.com/’.trim( $username ) );

Retrieves a cached version of the Instagram page, I will continue with WPEngine to find out why.

has this been resolved? I am currently experiencing something similar on site I have built:

I have checked the transients and I have none in the database so it must be something else.

Any suggestions please? I love this plugin as it is so easy to set up and I have used it multiple times.

As suggested above, I recommend reaching out to WP Engine to get some more details about how they cache transients and how to clear them.
