1. There is no hidden code… and as @mnelson4 mentioned, all code is public.
2. Thanks to constructive feedback in another Yarpp thread, the changelog for v4.5 has been updated with additional background and information. As additional context, our #1 priority for v4.5 was to get the plugin reinstated in the directory. In that rush, we admittedly didn’t spend much time on the changelog. In hindsight, I can imagine how jarring and out of the blue it must have appeared to users of the plugin! This has been rectified.
3. Shareaholic is installed on hundreds of thousands of websites, including brand names that we’ve all heard of. In addition, some of the largest and most reputable WordPress hosts (such as WPEngine, Kinsta, SiteGround) work closely with and recommend Shareaholic. Shareaholic is an official partner of Google and other such companies. Companies of such caliber tend to partner with like-minded and similar caliber companies. Shareaholic plugin has a 4.2/5.0 lifetime rating across 700+ reviews, with 500+ 5-star reviews. That is pretty darn good. The picture is even better if you look at the rating trend over the past year+.
4. Re Monetization of YARPP. It took a lot of money to take over the plugin and related IP from the previous owners. We (and they) did it for the greater good of the ecosystem, but we do need to monetize it in some way to at least break even and cover expenses! New Pro paid features is a great idea. Perhaps another option related to Ad Monetization (ads are a great way for some sites to make money, but not for others). These are all early ideas, but be assured that there will be proper communication before. There is a lot we need to do around security and basic updates before we can even start thinking about this. At the end of the day, whatever the direction, it needs to work for YOU “the users” of the plugin. Without you, YARPP doesn’t exist. So, if you have suggestions, feature requests, etc – please do share them!
