    Hi there

today I updated code snippets to it’s latest version 2.10.

Since then the quicktags in the toolbar of plain text editor have gone completely. Deactivating Code Snippets plugin brings them back again.

Could you please have a look?

    Thanks and best regards
    Carsten

P.S.: I’ve been checking some of my other sites (different plugins, different themes) where I’ve been running the latest code sippets update.

    An each page same picture.

I have a similar issue, I updated code snippets today. I can no longer update/configure hyperlinks in the WordPress visual editor. When I deactivate code snippets it works again.

Any support would be much appreciated.

Thank you for reporting this. I can’t really imagine what could have caused this, but I’ll take a look and see if I can find out.

Unfortunately, I am unable to replicate this on my testing site.

In the meantime, just a few quick questions that would hopefully help narrow down this issue:

Does the missing quicktags/broken link dialogue issue only occur with the description visual editor on the Edit/Add New Snippet page, or elsewhere within WordPress (e.g. the post and page editor).

Did you update from the previously latest version (v2.9.6), or an older version?

Does disabling all the active snippets or activating safe mode resolve this issue?

    Are you using multisite?

Thank you for your help with this!

    Hi Shea

Thanks for taking care so quickly.

    1. It also occurs on pages, posts and custom post types. So it’s somehow globally.
    2. Updated from 2.9.6 to 2.10
    3. Deactivating all snipptets as well as turning on safe mode or deactivating code snippets plugin brings back quicktags.
    4. All my sites are single-site installations – using 2 subdomains, one for plugins and one for wp-content.

Each point mentioned above is true for all my sites.

    Cheers

Thanks Carsten! That’s actually really helpful, as it seems that it must be something in your site snippets which is causing this issue – which would explain why I am unable to reproduce it on my site.

What would be easiest from here is if you felt comfortable giving me a copy of an export file of all of your currently active snippets, so I can try them out on my test site and narrow down the issue. Do you think that would be possible?

    Hi Shea

Of course I would send you an export of all my scripts (there are many). Just let me know where to drop the files for you.

    Cheers

Only the ones that are active when the quicktags are broken are necessary.

My email is on this page, or you can send it to me through WordPress Slack, if you use it.

Ok, I’ll check if I can drill it down. Another thing i noticed when checking my scripts: all my scripts lost the information about where to run the specific snippet. All snuppets are on “run globally”.

As I run frontend as well as backend scripts this could be the reason yet, couldn’t it?

I’ll correct the settings for each script now and check if I got rid off the problem then.

Ok, now it’s getting really stange: I can’t change the setting where to run a script.

After setting it to “frontend only” and saving, the setting is on global again.

I’ve been doing it for several scripts now and always the same behaviour.

I have a feeling this might be due to an issue with upgrading your database tables. It’s possible they are still using the old format. This can be fairly easily changed with access to phpMyAdmin or adminer or a similar tool, but it’s hard to know whether this is the issue or not without taking a look at the site.

I remember that I was aked to update my database tables during one of the last updates.

phpmyadmin is in place. What data do you need to check my tables? phpmyadmin user, wp admin access?

    Plugin Author Shea Bunge

    (@bungeshea)

phpmyadmin access would be just fine.

Otherwise, you can force a recreation of the tables by backing up snippets, uninstalling and then reinstalling the plugin, but this can be a bit of an annoying process.
