Last posted thumbnail

hi ,

I am customizing a theme , and i have some issue in showing only the last post thumbnail.

In a table of two columns i want to display thumbnail of recent post(only one image) and in second column i want to display the recent posts (some five)of the same category.

I am using custom field (thumb) to show images on my home page , so pls can one can give a good piece of code..

For reference to wht i am saying pls have a look at here..i dnt know whether this guy is using wordpress but i have seen some one implementing this.

If u see the above url , just scrolling down below the featured section , u can see a category named gossips

In the same way i need to show last post image with last five recent posts of that category
