Last Modified Variable

At the moment there is no easy way in which a last modified date can be displayed dynamically. I am interested in trying to tweak the code so that the post based last modified date and time is displayed by the user. However this is not an easy change to make without understanding how the software works and I may have to just leave it as it is. It is not essential because you can just add it to the text, but it may make life easier for people working on the team if we could tweak the code somehow.
