    Hi Joe,

I was starting to update my site to use your plugin, instead of WordPress OSM Plugin which does not appear to be supported any longer, and I ran into a problem with my first KML. It’s a World Map KML, with links in countries I visited and countries I have not visited are shaded grey. However, when I used your plugin it turned all the grey areas red and the shaded countries did not appear match. To make sure it wasn’t my KML I tried loading it into https://mapshaper.org/ and it also displayed my KML as I expected. I could not attach the KML here so I created a page on my site to show the difference and allow for the KML to be downloaded.

    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers, Nigel

    Hi @canuck069,

Thanks for reaching out and I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues.

I am seeing the same thing when importing your KML, but I am yet to figure out the exact cause.

It appears to be something to do with the use of Multi Geometries in your KML file. The script used to convert from KML into GeoJSON (Waymark stores Map data in GeoJSON) supports Multi Geometries and Waymark reads in the geometries… but for some reason refuses to display some of them :-/

My suspicion is that something is getting lost/corrupted on import.

I was able to make some progress:

    • Open KML in Google Earth Pro
    • Navigate to a country layer not importing (e.g. Australia)
    • Right-click layer and select “Split apart Multi Geometry”
    • Australia is now two Polygons
    • Save KML
    • Upon importing into Waymark, Australia (including Tazmania) are displayed correctly.

Unfortunately I was not able to figure out how to do this in bulk, but I hope it is of some help to you.

Please do let me know if you make any more progress, as it would be good to find a solution to this.

    Cheers,

    Joe

    Hi Joe,

Sorry for the delay in responding, I don’t get time to work on my site as much as I would like. It sounds like it is an issue with the original KML not forming the polygons correctly. I pulled it off the internet about 10 years so perhaps I have been lucky that the other plugins have not had an issue with it. I will try to find some time to see if the polygons are complete.

If I find anything obvious I will let you know. I will continue migrating my other maps from WP OSM Plugin to Waymark and let you know if I have any problems.

    Thanks, Nigel

    Good Morning,
I went looking for a new World Borders KML this morning and came across the ArcGIS site and when I loaded their KML into your Editor and it also came up with unexpected results. I do not know if it is the conversion to GeoJSON or it is the same polygon dataset that I was using.

Here is a link to their KML: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=7a8585998b7f470b85235dcdb560c7e2
