• FYI – Envira Gallery thumbnails do get converted to WebP on load but the large images that appear when you click those thumbnails are the original JPG and are not converted on load. I’m sure it has to do with how the images are replaced with the Alter HTML options (we use the defaults) but all other WebP conversions work like a charm.

Just to add to this – after further testing, the WebP plugin is completely incompatible with Envira Gallery. Not only does it not convert the full-size (lightbox) images to WebP, but the WebP plugin forces the full size images to load as the thumbnails, making the page size astronomically higher.

You could perhaps try to add exceptions to these images. See the “Can I make an exceptions for some images?” section in the FAQ. Adding exceptions on the settings screen is btw. a planned feature

If I did that there wouldn’t be much purpose for the WebP plugin since the vast majority of images on the website are Envira galleries.

    ok.
It might be that I look into it one day, but I prioritize general improvements over specific combinations. And I have a lot of these on the roadmap. Also, I see that the plugin isn’t free (but at least with 14 day money back guarentee). You might have better luck if you contact the developers of Envira gallery instead.

But I have created an issue for it: https://github.com/rosell-dk/webp-express/issues/241
