Please first update the plugin to version 1.6. Your language file should has bmf- prefix. e.g bmf-de_DE.mo

You can put this file in

wp-content/plugins/mutual-buddies/i18n/languages/bmf-de_DE.mo

or

wp-content/languages/bmf/bmf-de_DE.mo
