I’ve noticed 4.0b3 just installed today wrote a language file in my linux server’s /tmp directory:

    -rw-r--r-- 1 www-data root 12756 Aug 8 12:32 fr_FR.tmp

I’m not sure this is new to 4.0 but I don’t think I have ever seen this before.

I wonder how this file was written there and what for?

Is this a final implementation or just a beta stage hack?

What will happen if it was deleted on machine reboot or other causes?

That was probably from when it was being downloaded, but WP is not calling it from the /tmp folder.

If WP is not using it from /tmp folder then it should be moved where it belongs to after it was downloaded — in my opinion.

Well yes ?? That’s GENERALLY what happens. Any PHP upload gets tossed in tmp while being processed, and when it’s done it’s deleted. That’s the point of temp. Sometimes there’s an error and it gets stuck.
