lang_code issue

Hello,
Stumbled across Google’s correlation of certain language versions to a region. Specifically with English and the U.S. region.

Your plugin sets “en_US”.

According to Google’s help, there is no underscore “_“, but a hyphen “–“. https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/localized-versions#language-codes .For example, “en–us”.

According to ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 format – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2 also hyphenate “–“.

A bunch of other references do, too.

I’ve already started making changes through functions.php But it doesn’t always work correctly.

Is there any way to update this to the latest specifications?
