Lack of flexibilities and not 100% cleaned after uninstallation
-
Comparing to other forum scripts, 90% of the features are missing in this forum plugin. (even forum sections feature isn’t available too)
Also, the default theme is blood-vomiting. I could understand this, so I went to search for some “standard” designs.
- bbPress itself doesn’t seem to offer free themes
https://bbpress.org/themes/ - No “standard” designs are available for free unofficially
- No premium designs are stand-alone to forum only
Total waste of my time, despite a positive thought to give it a try.

I had not posted in 24 hours when I tried to post, the link I shared above shows that I couldn’t… Not the bbPress plugin but all the other plugins combined that added features to your plugin… I would gladly pay a monthly fee of at least $20 if it had all the features phpBB had … There are just so many issues and you can’t customize the forum as much as needed … Don’t mean to be harsh but I can’t even post all my problems without getting an error and then it doesn’t even tell you why.
Here is the link to the error

Yeah I still do not get where you are getting these plugins that cost a total of 250 dollars a month, can you lead me to some of what you are talking about?? I just want to check on them, there is likely a free alternative to the plugins you paid for.

What are the issues that you are experiencing customizing your forums?? I am pretty sure I can help you on this.

It is being looked over why you cannot post on bbpress.org, but you can post your issues here or on your own review.

The link below is asking for $60 for one year. This is just one plugin… I need to be able to add more fields to the registration but I can’t unless I pay for it. I would really like to find one that is free as this is not a paid job and I am donating this project for the mental health community.
Profile BuilderWhat are the issues that you are experiencing customizing your forums?? I am pretty sure I can help you on this.
I would like to add a link to edit Forum Profile where I want to add it on the menu … So it can be found more easily.
That would be great … Hope you have the patience… I will post on my own review thank you for your patience

There are a couple of plugins that can do this that are definitely free like BuddyPress or Cimy User Extra Fields.

Ya I tried that but it didn’t work … I assume it is because I am using “Profile Builder”
And I am in communication with someone on buddypress as well … I can’t seem to leave a post on their forum either …
I don’t think profile builder is causing the issue, if it doesn’t show up in the menu, you probably need custom code for your theme. The code should work for most default themes though. You can test it out if you switch to a default theme real quick.
Oh and about you not posting on bbPress and BuddyPress. We tried to find out why you may have trouble posting and couldn’t come across any possible issues yet. One of the moderators retyped your whole post and did not have an issue posting it, and also that your user role has not changed to something that would restrict posting like the blocked role. Only thing I can say is make sure you go to the actual bbPress or BuddyPress support forums at https://bbpress.org/forums/ and https://buddypress.org/support/. We will still keep looking over why you cannot post though.
I am definitely posting in those forums
Just making sure, because some sites seem to put some sites into a 100% full width iframe and I think maybe that could cause an issue.
@celtic, feel free to write a bad review to warn others. bbPress doesn’t deserve so many positive reviews.
Are you serious? Please, read the plugin description BEFORE you try it. It’s clearly stated, that bbPress is NOT a phpBB competitor, it’s a simple, extensible forum software. It’s simple out of the box. Intentionally. Extensible with plugins. Extensible with custom code. That’s what it is.
It’s really funny. You buy a car and say it’s bad because it can’t fly.

That would be integration of… video hosting?
I don’t need such complicated features, so this scenario makes more sense: A so-called “simple” car has no air condition, roof, windscreen, lights, etc.
And it has only 1 seat.
After throwing it away, the chemicals will stick on me forever until I see a doctor.
To add fuel to the fire, it has a customer service. But the door is just locked and (she) can’t get in to get support although she can see what’s happening inside.

Haha there are always vehicle analogies for comparing forums software for some reason. I don’t see it like that, bbPress gives users what they need in a forum, its not just simple back and forth posts. If I had to make a car analogy I would say bbPress is not a car with spoilers, a Jackhammer subwoofer, and scissor doors, but something reliable day to day that could be pimped out with some plugins/themes. I have seen bbPress molded into a site platform that functions similar to Reddit does, but bbPress by default has most of the groundwork done for most users.
There are other forum software that is comparable to bbPress though like Fluxbb.
There are features that the devs are considering and would love to see in the bbPress plugin in the future though. If you have anything to suggest you can comment a list here if you want, then we can talk about it from there if you want.

I am pretty sure I said @celtic could post on her review as the issue is being looked over. She is also able to post on the www.remarpro.com support forum as well.

My point is it’s clearly stated in this car specs. I don’t think you’ll pay for the car without studying detailed spec. So why you don’t read the plugin description? Because it’s free, you don’t risk your money.
Same about support. Sorry guys, but you forget the main part. It’s Open Source Software, and you get answers from regular users like you and me. It’s not a dedicated support department being paid salaries for answering your questions. It’s not a company / business who backs everything. Before saying “support sucks” would you be so kind and tell me, did you spend your own time answering at least one or two other users’ topics and helped them?
Some cool people are spending their own time building bbPress for FREE. Let’s respect that. The problem is not the bbPress and its feature set, the problem is your unrealistic expectations.

So this is the description:
Have you ever been frustrated with forum or bulletin board software that was slow, bloated and always got your server hacked? bbPress is focused on ease of integration, ease of use, web standards, and speed.
We’re keeping things as small and light as possible while still allowing for great add-on features through WordPress’s extensive plugin system. What does all that mean? bbPress is lean, mean, and ready to take on any job you throw at it.
Languages: Also available in Bahasa Indonesia, Català, Deutsch, English (Australia), English (Canada), and 13 other languages.
It’s sounds better/more powerful than vBulletin Board. So my expectation isn’t unrealistic since the features I need are available with vBulletin Board.

Then why other open-source software can do it like MyBB, phpBB, Vanilla, etc? I’m using MyBB and their support is quite good. There are paid staffs there too.

MyBB can do better.
And, plugins/themes are like accessories only, extra features. But the problem is bbPress is missing too many features.
Am I going to buy a windscreen, roof, aircondition, etc., for my car as “accessory”?
There are features that the devs are considering and would love to see in the bbPress plugin in the future though.
I don’t know what the developers are busy with within the past few years since it doesn’t improve to be like MyBB at all.
