Know what I want, but what theme should I start off with?

I’ve just set up wordpress on my server and am currently figuring out what php and css code does what exactly. Have also been browsing through all the themes, but haven’t found anything I particularly like… I have, however, found a wordpress-based site that I really like the layout of: https://meatbun.us/blog/

I really like the minimalist style and general post layout, as well as the grey post background. I’d like to have pages titled “home”, “forums”, “reviews”, “about” and maybe “contact”. I’m going to try and contact the site admin to see if I could use some code, but if that fails, does anyone know if it is based on a theme or know any similar theme I could use as a starting point?
