You’ve made a great job with your plugin. I’m using you’re plugin for more than 6 months to show birds migration.

But, it seems like I have reach the KML file limit size.
I have no problem to load individual map of each bird.

The problem is with the general map with all the birds. The map is not loaded. Seems the KML file is to big (mine is 2Mo).

What is the limit size of KML size i can use? Is there a way to find an issue for that?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

  • Hi Sox44,

I’m not Ross (the plugin author), but since I have just been researching your problem, maybe I can help.

The size limit for fetched KML files is 3MB, so you should be OK.
See limits here. If you are getting near the limit you can use a compressed KMZ file (simply ZIP your KML file and rename the extension to .KMZ – the google API recognizes .KMZ as well as .KML).

Another problem some people seem to run into is the length of the URL to the KML file – it seems that the API chokes on it if it is too long. If that might be the problem, you could try shortening yours with something like bitly.com.

    Hope that is some help

Thank you zamplify1 for your reply. I have converted all my KML to KMZ.
