I’m trying here because I am getting no help on plugin support. I suspect this is not just a one plugin thing either. I fear any custom field plugin might leave such a mess.

We have switched the theme of a site and no longer need the custom fields built into the old one. The problem is they still show on the back end even after killing the plugin that created them. I don’t know what they all are (there are a lot), and I certainly don’t know how to KILL them, especially safely. Even if I find them to kill them I am not sure the drop down that says ‘custom fields’ on the page’s back end will go away.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to hide or get rid of them?

It is not advisable to look for bulk deleting the custom fields unless you are absolutely sure of the source that created the custom field.
The CFs could have been created by multiple plugins and themes.

You can however hide the ‘Custom Fields’ dropdown in the admin backend.
For that go to the backend, click on 3 dots in the top-right corner, and select ‘Preferences’ from the menu that comes up.
    (see the screenshot here)

A lightbox will then appear, which will have ‘Custom Fields on the very bottom.

Unselect the checkbox that says ‘Cstom Fields’ and you are good to go
