Does it matter where exactly on a webpage your keywords are placed? Is it important to place them higher up on the page versus lower down?

When Yoast evaluates the page is it looking at the entire page or does it target certain areas? Is this configurable?

    Thanks.

    Hi @megunticook

The SEO content analysis does indeed provide assessments if your focus keyphrase has been used in the following areas:

    -the title of the page
    -the introductory/first paragraph
    -heading(s)
    -the URL
    -the content of the article
    -the meta description
    -the image alt tags

Aside from that, it also checks to see if the focus keyphrase is evenly distributed along the entire span of the content.

Sorry, I missed your reply earlier. I’m using Yoast with WooCommerce and am noticing on product pages that the text in the “Product Short Description” area, which in our store is the main product description and at the top of the page, doesn’t seem to register with Yoast. In other words, if I put a keyphrase in that section Yoast doesn’t seem to see it (I’ve tested this). Why would that be? Is there some setting in Yoast where you can incluce/exclude certain portions of the page?
