I’m trying to optimize all the keywords/keyphrases in my blog site and I have a question. I’m checking all of the keywords/keyphrases I used against Google Trends to see if they are keywords/keyphrases that people actually search for; and, in some cases they are not and I have changed the keyword/keyphrase to something that people actually search for according to Google Trends.

My question is – what is the impact of changing the Yoast keyword/keyphrase without changing the content of the text? I don’t believe that whatever I specify in Yoast as a keyword/keyphrase is submitted to Google – is that correct? I believe that Google infers what the keyword/keyphrase should be based on an analysis of the text and whatever you specify in Yoast as a keyword/keyphrase simply checks to see if the text is likely to support that keyphrase.

If that is the case, changing the explicit keyword/keyphrase in Yoast without changing the text should have no direct impact on Google search rankings. It simply will allow you to see how the text is likely to rank for that new keyword/keyphrase. Can someone please confirm that this is correct?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

That is correct. Simply adding the focus keyword to your post/page does not have a direct impact on the page. You will need to begin to resolve those notifications Yoast tosses out. This may mean adding more text, or images, or links etc. This will all help send signals to Google that when it scans the post/page it ought to rank for that keyword.
