One thing that’s a lot harder to do in the block editor vs classic is formatting large amounts of text content.

Is there a shortcut to say convert a P block into a H2, H3, etc block? I haven’t found anything on it. If it does not exist, please consider this as a feature and it would be very helpful time saver that would replace the available keyboard shortcut in classic editor.

    Thanks!

There is a shortcut to transforming the text in your paragraph if you are using text markdown.

For example, to transform a paragraph block to a heading block you have to add the heading markdown before the text within the paragraph block and then press your Space. As shown in the short video below:

Alternatively, you can use the block’s transform option this short video shows how you can achieve that. You can use that option to transform your block to the available options.

    Appreciate the suggestions @thelmachido!

OK, the markdown idea is interesting, though it takes a mouse click and then several taps on the keyboard to accomplish.

I am familiar with converting the block manually, the trick is when you have hundreds of lines of text it can get rather cumbersome.

In Classic Editor, the keyboard shortcuts are:

    Heading 1: Control + 1 (PC) or Command + 1 (Mac)
    Heading 2: Control + 2 (PC) or Command + 2 (Mac)
    Heading 3: Control + 3 (PC) or Command + 3 (Mac)
    Heading 4: Control + 4 (PC) or Command + 4 (Mac)
    Heading 5: Control + 5 (PC) or Command + 5 (Mac)
    Heading 6: Control + 6 (PC) or Command + 6 (Mac)

Seems to be important missing functionality here. What’s the best way to submit this as a feature request, create a new github issue?

    Hi @bozzmedia

Seems to be important missing functionality here. What’s the best way to submit this as a feature request, create a new github issue?

I see what you mean, and yes a GitHub issue on the Gutenberg repository would be the best place to add this feature request:

Let me know if you need assistance

Were you able to open a GitHub issue @bozzmedia? If you have any difficulty doing so, please let us know.

In the meantime, I am going to mark this thread as resolved.

    Thank you!

I did, thanks @mrfoxtalbot . Sounds like these features are coming in a future version that will merge into core.

Can you please share a link to the GitHub issue, if possible. This can be useful for future reference. Thank you for the update ??

@thelmachido great point, links to relevant tickets below:

    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/46444
    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/44681

What I’m not clear about is when a feature from the gutenberg plugin is ported over to core.
