• The how-to’s in support seem to imply I should be able to select to keep the metadata in my media settings, but there is no such selection there (maybe that is old info)?

I’ve searched exhaustively, and find only other users seeking the same information/help. Similar entries in the support forum have simply been closed out without resolution or offer outdated solutions for very old versions of WordPress. I’m not trying to design a site from scratch; I just want to add a standard resized image to a posting without losing the metadata.

I was happily using the “image-magik” plug-in (a WordPress 1.5 tool) for a while with some luck, but it does not seem to work every time, and lately not at all, and one can’t change settings on it in the current version.

Alas, I have only minimal php skill at present…so I’m afraid advice on how to build my own image import and management code from scratch won’t help much. Has anyone resolved this? Is there a reliable plug-in compatible with WordPress 3.5? Any help greatly appreciated!

My site is https://www.cometary.com You won’t notice any issues on it, but you can see I use rather a lot of images & I’m trying to retain the metadata on them.

  • Click on your Media link (dashboard), click on each image, click on Edit and add your metadata.

Thanks for at least responding. But adding metadata isn’t my problem–my photo editing software does that for me–it’s keeping the metadata.

The issue is I have metadata in place when I upload the original files, and my image library plugin does a good job of using that data for other things I need when working with the full-sized images (some of that metadata is quite detailed), but the standard resized images are stripped of that data. That means if I use one of my images on the text part of my blog, it no longer has data (no info, no copyright, etc.). And it’s many many images. Currently, I’m manually adjusting the size of each image from fullsize within a given posting, but I used to be able to select, say “medium” and it would keep its metadata without my having to carefully edit the image size by hand each time.

Any ideas? Surely there’s an up-to-date plugin that does that (or a WordPress update in the pipeline, maybe?)

A plugin like this may help:

Or, search in the plugins repository with appropriate keywords.
