  • Block all comments with any link is one way:

Admin Dashboard>Settings>Discussion>Comment Moderation>Hold a comment in the queue if it contains>SET TO “1”> and then in comment blacklist section add a list like this:

    www
    http
    url
    ftp
    sex
    viagra
    drugs

    Save Changes.

Now any comment with a link will require approval and most will go to spam (due to blacklist setting)

Also, closing comments after a period of time will reduce maintenance of comments..

    • Is your WP installation up to date? If not, update.
    • Do you need open registration? If not, deactivate it. (Settings => General)
    • You should configure that administrators have to accept comments first. (Settings => Discussion)
    • You could also install an antispam plugin such as Akismet.

    Thanks guys,

It is not my comments section. They are all protected by everything you suggest.

It is my user registration process. I get this type of user registration often. They register on my site as subscribers.

New User Registration on your site:
    Teaching Strategies for Relief Teaching.
    Username: Breelafar
    Firstname: Breelafar
Email: (Example) junk email address goes here with a ru prefix
    IP Address: 222.169.60.2
    Password: 1jBb34pvhZ

I don’t want to discourage user registration by legitimate users. I know I can delete them in the USER directory but I was just wondering if there is any way to stop them at the registration process. I assume they are robotic registrations rather than real people.

    Have you tried ReCapcha?

and leaving their junky weblinks on the site.

    Where are they ‘leaving’ links?
