Thanks for this great plugin, definitely a must install!

I’m in the process of installing it at all sites I’m managing and was wondering what will happen after they will be updated to WP 5.0. Will I need to keep your plugin active there or will it be safe to remove it?

I understand that the plugin will remove the nag screen for installing Gutenberg, so, normally, there should not remain any trace of this thing in version 5.0, right?

    Hi John,

    Glad to help:

    1) “Will I need to keep your plugin active there or will it be safe to remove it?”

Gutenberg will be included in the WP core as of version 5.0. So it will be active always unless you specifically disable it. The plugin will do this for you as long as it is active.

    2) “I understand that the plugin will remove the nag screen for installing Gutenberg, so, normally, there should not remain any trace of this thing in version 5.0, right?”

Yes, this plugin does everything you need to completely disable and hide G7G.

Many thanks Jeff, that’s fine then.
BTW, what’s this new acronym “G7G”? Is it the new nickname for Gutenberg?

As they say: “One pill every day will keep the doctor away” we then will be saying “one plugin this way will keep G7G away”…

Yes exactly, G7G is a numeronym for Gutenberg. Just easier to type. I don’t think anyone else refers to it that way, but it certainly saves some time ??

I mentioned this plugin in the discussion at WPtavern about another Gutenberg related plugin called “Classic Editor Addon” and you might want to chime in as your own plugin is clearly mentioned here and here.

Thanks John. I tried leaving a comment on that thread, but the comment sort of just vanished. Hopefully it’s just waiting for moderation or something, who knows.

In any case, no worries. Disable Gutenberg will be ready for WordPress 5.0. I’ve been developing WordPress for 10+ years. Have no problem keeping up with Gutenberg.

I’m sure about that and I had no worries…

I think it’s normal your comment doesn’t appear yet, they take ages to moderate their site and often comments are showing up after 24H. Wait until evening and see what happens but I think it’s important you reply as this debate is important for many people.

Essentially, they try to tell us that we need 2 plugins to block GG, one of which is sort of their own making, while I believe there are other ways, like yours, that simply keep this thing out of sites and keeps things as they are.

Yeah I try to avoid all the drama (because life is too short), but seeing the debate reminds me why the plugin is important. I’m tracking the Classic Editor plugin as well as Gutenberg for whatever final changes are made when added to core. Should be no problem, unless they pull a stunt and try to get clever with something.
