    Hello,
Have uploaded and I get the wp. Dashboard. But when I click ‘View Site’ I go to my hosts page which says that somebody (me!!) already owns my domain. Now, after starting form scratch I am getting a strange page which looks like my traffic quota data. I am pretty sure that I have uploaded to the root and I have nothing else on the the site. Where should I start looking for the problem?
    Thanks david.

you may need to delete host’s default index.html to allow wordpress’ index.php to work

Also make sure that the nameservers are pointing to proper server.

Thanks samboll – unfortunately it did not work. Also inserted the missing ‘?>’ into the config.php which also did not work.

Thanks Kailash 1 – I have a feeling that this is the area at fault.
All the WP files are in what I call the ‘root’, that is, they all appear directly after the ‘/’. I have no ‘public html’ folder as some others have.
My Domain Destination Settings are –

    Document root /homepages/**/d********* (* is a number)
    Destination type is ‘Home Directory’
    Home Directory is ‘Existing Directory’
    Existing directory is ‘/.’
And I was assuming that the ‘/.’ meant the ‘root’

Should I paste ‘/homepages/…..’ into Existing directory?

    YIPPEE!!

At last, got it to work on my 1&1 account.
It was just a matter of following the instructions. The problem was, which set of instructions to follow from the plethora of advice out there? This is what worked for me –

Deleted all previous attempts from site, including databases.
A ‘log’ directory would not delete but took the risk of leaving it there. I had no other websites, so that all that showed was ‘/logs’ (remember, I was not able to delete that one)

Downloaded a fresh WP and uploaded the renamed directory (not individual files). 4 files initially refused to upload from FileZilla, but did so after I had individually selected them and sent them on their way.

    Created a fresh database.

Pointed my domain to my webspace. This is what had originally confused me. It is just a matter of making the ‘renamed directory’ you uploaded the ‘Destination’ of your domain.

Go to 1 and 1 FAQ and Put WordPress in Search, then look at –
    ‘How do I install WordPress?’
‘How to create a new MySQL 5 Database?’
‘How do I point my domain to my webspace?’

    Good Luck
