Keep 1:1 pixel ratio on retina screens

    Is there a way to keep images at original pixel resolution on ‘retina’ screens?

    At the moment a 400×400 res image will enlarge to fill 800×800 pixels on a X2 retina screen such as the iPad, making it look less sharp. I know this behaviour is intended (so that images don’t appear too small), but maintaining original 1:1 pixel sharpness is more important for my project.

    Is it possible to force the image to stay at 1:1 pixel density/original resolution (400×400) when viewed on a retina screen?

    hey @rignano,

    You can choose to not generate retina thumbs for a gallery by making sure the retina options are not checked in the retina metabox when editing a gallery.

    Give that a try and let me know if it works for you.

    Thanks for your response. It’s not an issue with the gallery, but when the full-sized image is loaded up in Foobox. Basically, I want the images in Foobox to always show at original, physical pixel size (not CSS pixel size). In other words, on devices with pixel ratios greater than 1 (such as the iPad) then the image width and height is reduced in order to maintain a 1:1 physical pixel ratio.

    Device pixel ratio of 1 = Image shown 100% width, 100% height
    Device pixel ratio of 2 = Image shown 50% width, 50% height
    Device pixel ratio of 4 = Image shown 25% width, 25% height

    This will then keep 1:1 ratio with the physical pixels of the screen and ensure smaller images are kept sharp. Hope this makes sense!

    FooBox will load whatever is linked to in the anchors href, so it should be working already.

    Can you please link to your site so I can look at the images on different devices, and see the issue you are having.
