• Hello – I was curious how I can add alt image text to the front page banner on the Kale theme? It doesn’t inherit the images assigned alt image text when inspecting the banner like other images on the the front page.

  • Hi @tinsnut,

Thanks for using Kale- we really appreciate it!

Currently, the banner uses the caption heading for its alt text, but we can definitely revisit this. It may make more sense to force it to use the original image’s alt text even in this setting.

We mostly see people using this by inserting an image they’ve already placed in one of their blog posts, and more often than not the original alt text isn’t appropriate for this setting. But being realistic, neither is the caption heading…and if people wrote accurate, descriptive alt text for its intended purpose (instead of trying to game SEO), then the same text would absolutely be appropriate regardless of the location.

Thanks for bringing this up, we’re grateful for the very constructive feedback!

Thank you for the quick response, we love the theme but you are right, it was a SEO review that said it was missing and started my investigation. Not sure how much one missing alt is a strike against but I’m trying to be thorough.
