Just installed and liking the plugin very much. Enough so that I’m ready to make a donation to show my thanks. However, before I do, I have a question:

Preface: I don’t ever plan/want to send users an email about any new post or page that is added to my site. I simply want to use this plugin to mass email 1 of the 2 groups, maybe both groups, and maybe even an individual or two if necessary, but nothing else.

    So, with that said:

    1. Is this program set, by default, to send a notification to users about a new post that has been made to the blog or even if a new page has been added? If so, I need to turn that off ASAP and can you tell me how?

    2. Does NOTIFICATION mean for new Posts made to blog and MASS EMAIL is simply what it implies; sending an email to everyone in a group for example?

I have unchecked all the the boxes in Default User Settings, but would like your thoughts on that.

Finally, under Email Users -> User Settings in the dashboard, I changed all users to OFF for both Notifications and Mass Email as a precaution until I’m sure I know what I’m doing. Should that section have OFF for NOTIFICATIONS, but ON for MASS EMAIL based on my desire to only send personal emails to my users?

Very sorry if this is addressed somewhere else. I know that’s frustrating! However, I couldn’t find anything on your website or the WordPress site about this specific functionality I’m wanting.

    Thank you!

P.S. Lengthy reply not necessary if preferred. Bulleted instructions for what I need to achieve my goal is fine. ??

Ok, I just learned that submitting OFF to all Users -> User Settings in the dashboard makes it so I don’t get a list of names for members in mass email.

Therefore, I now see this needs to be turned ON for all users if I want to be presented with a list of names for mass email.

It seems if I remove checks from the first two checkboxes in Default User Settings, I will achieve my goal of not automatically sending new Posts to site members.

I can then simply go to Email Users in dashboard and send my mass emails there.

    Is this right?

Email Users never automatically sends anything. All email is user initiated whether it be an email to a single user, an email to a group of users, or a Post/Page notification.

If you don’t plan to use the Post Notification feature, you can pretty much ignore it. To send out a Post notification, you have to explicitly take an action either from the Post Editing screen (there is a Notify function in the upper right hand corner of the editing screen) or from the Dashboard > Posts > Notify menu where you can choose a post to send out a notification for.

Setting the Post Notification to OFF for all users ensures they will never receive a notification if you or someone else decides to send one so you can look at it as a safety precaution.

For email, you can always send email to an single user despite their MASS EMAIL setting. One-to-One email is always allowed. Always. Group email, either by selecting a group of specific users or using WordPress’ groups or roles mechanism, is supported by the MASS EMAIL setting so in your case, you want to make sure it is ON for all users or their address will be filtered from the recipient list when the address list is constructed.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Ok, thank you. I now see the “Notify function in the upper right hand corner of the editing screen,” which I didn’t know was there.

If I ‘were’ to click it, just to understand it more, would I be presented with another screen to select users and/or groups, … OR … would it send immediately based on the settings I have made?

    Thank you again.

I need a test site for plugin testing! ??

You will be presented with another screen where you can select the intended recipients.

Email Users also has a “debug” mode which when enabled, allows you to do everything EXCEPT send the actual email. The email process is intercepted very late and instead of sending the email, the plugin displays a bunch of information on the Dashboard which can show you which addresses actually receive the email – useful when working with groups and roles, and what your email headers look like – useful when things aren’t working as expected.

If you use debug mode, make sure you turn it back off when you’re done otherwise all WordPress email function will get tripped up by debug mode.

Dashboard > Settings > Email Users: Debug Mode is a checkbox on the settings page.

I typically reply with my thanks via the PayPal email as opposed to on the support forum. If I didn’t reply to you then I apologize, I dropped the ball. Thank you for donation, I appreciate it.
