    It’s amazing how you mess with one little thing and it can all go tits-up.

    Last week I couldn’t upload images to NextGEN, something to do with file permissions. I messed about with them a bit (and messed them up) ,I have now fixed them (with a little help from my webhosts Namesco) but now I have a couple of issues which I just can’t fix. Any help is very much appreciated.

    Firstly my ‘add new post’ is screwed, it is missing a load of options (like switch to HTML) and is much narrower than it should be:

    And also my toolbar has disappeared from the top and all the options have jumped in to the footer:

    Any pointers you give me are massively appreciated.

    That is rather long – to at the least. Definitely something you need to raise with your hosts.

    There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file.

    Did you delete your wp-config.php file? There’s no such file in the WpordPress download, so it’s not a file you should have dleted. do you have a backup? If not, do you know all of your database details (name, host, user, password)? If so, you can always re-recreate it from a copy of the wp-config-sample.php file. Just remember to only edit the new file in a plain text editor.

    Oh-ho…

    I might have misread what you said:

    “Then re-upload all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.”

    I might have copied it… Gulp.

    Don’t panic. It’s all fixable. If you do not know your database details, your hosts should be able to help you obtain them.

    Phewwwww…. I did have a copy. The site is now back up and running, with the following things fixed.

    NextGen gallery
    Admin bar (that had disappeared)
    ‘Add new post’ is now displaying properly

    Hopefully this thread will be useful to anyone who has similar problems.

    I’ve still got a lot of work to do but I am on the road to recovery. Esmi, I cannot thank you enough!
