Just installed and it’s already begging me for a five-star review
-
Leaving a one-star review for now due to how annoying the initial experience has been.

Thanks for the feedback – you can just dismiss/ignore the message.
How’s your experience with the plugin apart from that?
Too many messages and links everywhere to upgrade to premium. Uninstalled.
What if I told you that you could just ignore it? It’s a pretty asshole thing to do to give the entire plugin a 1-star review because it asked for a review.
@kraai The initial modal wasn’t even the real annoyance. That came on the primary settings page where there are links and ads about premium literally all over the place.
That’s fair I guess.
I choose to just ignore it: The free version suits my clients’ needs – I can pay for premium and have less advertising, or have advertising and free working software.
While I personally dislike the model, as a developer myself I wouldn’t give a fellow software developer the absolute worst rating, which I think should be reserved for when software devs steal your money or leave a backdoor to your site, or some else worse than a mild annoyance.
Thanks a lot @kraai for showing your support here. I can understand that people don’t like ads, but it’s important never to forget that without those, this plugin (used by hundreds of thousands for free, adding a lot of value) wouldn’t exist at all.
@socialdude I understand the need to push the premium service, but I still feel as though it’s a bit much: https://ibb.co/M6NGFHK. The word “premium “is mentioned 33 times while doing initial configuration.
Does that alone warrant giving it the worst review you can? I mean, that’s up there with Trump supporters and people who listen to Nickleback.
@kraai Yes; I think my rating is justified. Reviews are subjective. I don’t want to be excited about using a plugin only to be absolutely bombarded with ads before I even start using the thing.
I think it’s way over the top, but like you say it’s subjective. You’re really sensitive if 33 mentions of the word ‘premium’ drives you to sabotage someone’s business with such a poor review.
To be frank, I’d expect nothing less from a Texan.
@kraai LOL, okay. You’ve gone political already and now you think that someone who left a one-star rating for a WordPress plugin represents all 29 million people who reside in Texas. That logic and method of getting triggered is worse than mine.
Claiming it’s going to “sabotage someone’s business” is a complete exaggeration. And now you’re wasting the plugin developer’s time be continuing to leave pointless messages that they’ll have to come and see because they got the email notification.
Thinking big picture: Over 97% of the thousands of ratings are four stars or greater. A handful of occasional one-star ratings aren’t going to “sabotage” this plugin.
97% of the reviewers are probably not Texan snowflakes.
Have a blessed Thursday, Brian.

@kraai Couldn’t the same thing be said for yourself? You were offended that someone left a one-star rating. You’re not going to expect 100% of users to be satisfied with something, for a variety of reasons. You not agreeing with their reasoning doesn’t justify your name calling.
You see, Brian, you’re not a developer nor a business owner, so I do not expect you to understand what a 1-star review means to a growing business, or what it’s like to spend hundreds of hours developing and supporting free software, only to have a really small percentage of users actually pay you money for the better features.
I’m not offended at all, and I’m not saying you’re not within your right to give a one star review – you are absolutely. I’m astounded that you’d act like this for nothing more than a minor inconvenience from someone who gave you free software, and was willing to support you.
Giving a single star should be reserved for the worst of the worst, that’s it. You need to calibrate what your worst is mate.
only to have a really small percentage of users actually pay you money for the better features.
Likewise, there is a really small percentage of users who leave a negative review. Do you think mine was bad enough to where it would put a dent in new installations? Highly doubtful.
I’m astounded that you’d act like this for nothing more than a minor inconvenience from someone who gave you free software, and was willing to support you.
Why are you astounded? I’ve provided you with my justification, which you don’t agree with. And that’s fine. But now you’re going in a loop.
Ultimately, first impressions are important. To me, this plugin didn’t handle onboarding well at all, so I left my rating and went onto the next social plugin. Simple.
