• hi all,

i just converted my single-installation of WordPress to a Multisite one with a subdomain install. Everything went fine, but now that i created a couple of subsites (subdomains), i cannot recognize on FTP server where are the subdomains located: i need to retrieve their folders because my hosting service requires to modify htaccess in each subdomain folder to link their new DNS register entry.

    where are them?
thanks for your help in advance

  • Multisite WordPress doesn’t create sub-directories or anything within the file system to distinguish locations for the subdomain sites.

The extra (add-on) domains or subdomains all need to point to the root WordPress directory where WordPress and the domain mapping facilities will take over.

There will be some changes within the media uploads directory but those won’t be really apparent and will not require any intervention as the WordPress core will deal with that also.

hi JNashH. thanks for your reply.

i created the CNAME centroformazione.floball.it pointing at https://www.floball.it (main domain), but still i can’t open it.

But if i write https://centroformazione.floball.it, it opens instead! (same if i get there by link clicks from the site or from the dashboard).

is there any problem with the add-on domains maybe?

From what I see now things look right. I see the subsite on the subdomain.

I’d do away with one or the other DNS records you have for the subdomain as that might confuse something later… Keeping the ‘A’ record might be the best choice.

Let us know if you need more help.

hi again, seems like the DNS has spread over the net.

about the DNS records, what do you mean? i didn’t get it (sorry, i’m pretty newbie with DNS settings)

(edit): i can’t define an “A” since i don’t know the site IP, in my hosting’s cPanel i can only see Url and server names (not ip).

Open your multisite Network Admin, Open the Sites page, Click Edit near to subside you’re updating, Change the Subside Address (URL) to your new custom domain. I think this is solution if i am wrong so please reply me

Thanks for the update and quick reply. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on this thread.
