I’ve always assumed that the javascript used to report hits is completely asynchronous. That it takes virtually no time to execute and that it can’t “hang” if (for example) there’s no communication path to the receiver.

I just wanted to double check that this is all true. I’ve recently had a raft of “Gateway Timeout” responses on my website at SiteGround and SG support says that I’ve got a plugin that isn’t responding. I’m just going through all my plugins and trying to determine if there’s one that could potentially hang if some network path is down.

  • Hi Mike,

Statcounter has a visible and invisible counter. If you are using the invisible counter then it is probably setup to be asynchronous code and would be “non blocking” and would not cause a site hang even if there was some problem.

If you want please contact us directly and we can check your site to see if the statcounter is causing some issue. We can be reached at support at statcounter dot com.

    Kind regards

    Hi Rory,

Thanks for responding. Aside from my project ID and Security code, the only options I see are

    Counter Position: Footer
    Force invisibility: Is checked
(So I guess that means I’m using the “invisible counter” ?)

What do you mean by “probably setup to be asynchronous” — Is there some other reason it might not be?

Also, when you say “check my site” — how would you go about doing that? I’d probably prefer to run any checks myself.

    Thanks again,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Yes, Force invisibility check means invisible counter.

And we visit your website (load your website in browser) to check if code is installed, can you contact us here at https://statcounter.com/support/contact/ and we can take this forward.

    Thanks

    Tarak
