  • Thanks for your thoughts about Wordfence.

As of Tuesday we sent out 102,707 emails containing free licenses. Only 1.98% show as bounced. Of the people who have written in to Wordfence or reported they did not receive an email ([email protected] would be a great place to send such emails to) the ones I have answered have been able to find the emails in their spam folder, or have used another email to register with and had no problems receiving it.

I’m not sure I understand where lying comes to play here at all.

The bottom line is that t

he reason we did this is simple. We have no way to adequately track the number of sites using Wordfence beyond the download numbers we see. This isn’t a very good way to be able to future plan and make sure we have the bandwidth and servers available to keep providing the plugin and the services it provides. Requiring the email (which is only for sending you the license) allows us to spend wisely so we can invest where it is needed. About 90% of our users are using free licenses so it is vital we are able to budget smartly. We’re also not the first plugin in the repository to require this. Akismet does as well if I remember correctly.

Of course, we understand if providing an email is an issue for you. In that case, we wish you well with whatever security solution you choose to pursue.

@tinyhousefever I have edited your review to exclude the attack on the company against their honesty. Without any evidence to back that claim up, it’s not about the plugin or really even the service.

Now being mad about the license key change, sure that’s valid, but don’t call people names.

I’ve had no problems with email, or the new procedure policy at WF. The key came via email each attempt I made. The key failed each time, along with countless users because the auto provision failed thru Wordfence.com auto-add licenses feature, nor manual key entry. I feel it is dishonest to suggest this wasn’t an outage for customers in the last days of 2022 given the flash of inquiry post at support feeds related during that time period. I suggest they disclose that they had operational problems, or acknowledge there was a a problem instead of ghosting customers. My opinion.

I’m not sure where the ‘countless users’ are since we haven’t received a deluge of complaints. The ones we have had thus far have been email issues where they haven’t received the email. Try making sure there aren’t spaces before or after the license when you install it.
