Junk character (a€“) appearing in Google instead of an hyphen

  • Hi everybody,

    I use to insert an hyphen (-) in the title of all of my posts. The problem is that while it appears correctly in my website, Google shows a junk character (a€“) instead. I couldn’t find the solution anywhere… do someone have any idea about what’s wrong (I first thought it was an encoding issue, but my website is set to UTF-8)?

  • How are you inserting a hyphen into your page? Are you copying it from a word document? If so that could be the problem.

    I would delete the hyphen in wordpress and then re-type it with normal dash from your keyword.

    This should fix your problem.

    Thank you very much for your very prompt answer. No, I am just typing it normally with my keyboard. What is strange is that the post titles appear= correctly on my website (and on my <title> tag…). But Google reads some different character…

    Woops sorry I missed that part about google. I must have scanned your question too quickly.

    Google may have had trouble reading it at the time they scanned your page but if they scan it again it should be fixed and their listing should get updated.
