• Hi,
I have the athena theme for my website,(it was recommended in the book I was using & I liked the look) A week ago I did an update and the jumbatron stopped working – just doesn’t come up at all, there’s nothing in the back end that I can see to tell me why it isn’t coming up – but I have no idea how to look at the coding – I’m a total duffer when it comes to anything with computers)
I have now paid for the athena pro to see if I can get help, but nothing is happening there. I can’t find a way to talk to anyone other than opening a ticket & quite frankly it all looks dead. Have I paid money out for nothing? Are Smartcat still working?
I can’t find any way to email Smartcat at all.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Thank you all for your help. I am getting ready to see if installing the plugin works for me. If anyone knows any other themes close to this athena pro theme, please let me know as I have sent numerous help tickets to SmartCat, called a number I found on the web, with no answer. I’ve been reaching out to them for 2 years and because of this, they are a ghost company. Tried looking them up on the BBB website and there’s no trace of them. I would love if anyone else knows more about this company and can offer insight.

I am not a coder, so the above message wouldn’t help me. I did try the plugin but it doesn’t work. Any other suggestions?

Changingfacez…I found the same thing. I even attempted to contact two people whose sLinkedIn profiles listed Smartcat and got no reply from them. It’s a dead company. I’m spending today making a decision on a new theme to fix both my websites.

My only suggestion to all of you using Smartcat is to abandon it and find something new.

Changingfacez and MattLit, I was able to track down the main person listed with Smartcat at his new place of work and he told me that he has sold the company but was unable or just unwilling to give the new owners name or contact information. Also the address listed has not been rented by them for a few years now according to the property manager so that is where the trail went cold on me. I moved onto a new theme but am not completely happy with the new look. Brian

By the way! I just looked at the demo page for this theme and it is also broken!

    Ridiculous.
And the company still has a check out to purchase this and other themes.

I did report them to WP though that is like yelling into the Grand Canyon.

I bought the pro thinking that I could submit a support question for help but when no replies came I started to dig. I ended up getting PayPal to refund my payment, which they did. I found three people that were listed on various sites (linkedIn was one place) as employees and one was very angry with me for contacting him. My payment went to a girl’s email address and I was able to track down working at a newspaper, she got the main guy (her husband I think) who had been ignoring my emails and phone messages to finally pick up my call and he told me that he sold the company. The whole thing is fishy as far as I can tell but you will draw your own conclusions I think.

briantremblay…appreciate the update and this matches my experience of finding key people who used to work there with no more info than that.

i think it’s wrong the site still accepts payments and wish WP would shut it down.

curious what theme you moved on to.

I’m trying out “Lens” by InkHive.com to see if I can get it to look the way I want. This is at least an up to date theme https://inkhive.com/product/lens/ My site is https://www.polarstudio.ca

BTW…I did just go to the theme page and report it (and the company).

    “Hello,

Smartcat Design has abandoned its users. Attempts to reach support fail. There are multiple threads about issues attempting to contact Smartcat for this broken theme.

The company is still accepting payments.

Any attempts to reach principles in the company fail (I know myself and one other person have researched deep enough to find these people on LinkedIn and other sites).

I have reported this theme once before and would like to see WP remove this theme and the company entirely.

Hope all of you will take the time. Meanwhile, I’m switching to Otography from ThemeSpiral and hope I have a better experience.

I used the plugin WP Downgrade to rollback my WordPress installation to version 5.4.4, and everything in the Athena Pro theme started working again (well, at least all the problems I noticed: the mobile menu, the Jumbotron, and the testimonials).

Depending on what other plugins and/or other customizations you’ve made to the theme, your results may vary. If you try it you’ll probably want to backup your site first at the very least.

This workaround probably won’t work forever, as your plug-ins, and perhaps WordPress itself, will probably stop supporting older WordPress builds at some point, but it will at least buy some time for whatever is left of SmartCat to provide a remedy, or more likely, to find another theme. For a site like mine that is basically static in perpetuity, my hope is I can ride it out for a few more years.

Hi, I activated the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin to restore the slides on the home page on my site with the free Athena theme (now abandoned by the developers, completely disappeared); But I ask: how long will this interim fix work? Can I now change the slides or can I no longer change anything under penalty of the new “breaking” of the site? [I’m not much of an expert due to the short time available so thank you and don’t be too strict with my incompetence ??] I had it all done .. but the home page had to explode !!? ??
    Thanks so much!

@christian734ac i abandoned the theme since any fixes I did only seemed to last so long. there is no hope for this theme and trying to get it to work is ultimately a waste of time.

@mattlit THANK YOU. Forgive the question: I would have few changes to make (to the slides) and very little content to add to the site; done what it would be enough for me to keep the site as it is for only 25 days (I repeat 25 days), without updating WordPress (just putting it back has caused the problem), after which I can change the theme! Do you believe this is possible? THANK YOU in advance for your help!

If I’m understanding this you only need the site as it is for 25 more days?

I think that would work…I’m not positive. I’ve seen other posts about going backward with the version of WordPress, too.

    Matt
