The Media Library is not displaying JPG files although the images show up just fine on my posts. The files are saved in wp-content/uploads directory. Or for that matter, any jpg images within the WP Dashboard. However, PNG files show up just fine in the Media Library.

I checked on browsers with and without ad block or any other content blocking add-ons but same problem. What am I missing?

  • First… deactivate all your plugins temporarily and see if the images show in the Media Library.
If they do, then there is a problem with one of your plugins.
Then activate one plugin, check the Media Library and see if they disappear.
If not, repeat with another plugin at a time, until the problem re-occurs.
That plugin will be the culprit.

If you deactivate all the plugins and th images still do not show, there is probably something else occuring.

Never mind. I had added a code to prevent hotlinking of my images in my .htaccess file. That was blocking display of my images within my dashboard.

The code was – RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|jpeg)$ - [forbidden]
