I meant to add that when it does work, it only does on desktop. The same post doesn’t display tiled gallery on mobile.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Thanks for getting in touch with us. The problem isn’t linked to Divi, so no worries there!

Jetpack’s Tiled Galleries use the Photon module to resize your images on the fly and create that tiled effect. That means that for the galleries to work, the Photon CDN has to be able to download each one of the images.
This also applies to the images used in Related Posts; they’re also resized and served by Photon.

We’ll consequently need to understand why Photon isn’t able to download some of your images.

Most of the time, this happens because the images are too large, and can’t downloaded in less than 10 seconds. In other cases, an image hotlinking protection service blocks Photon from downloading the images.

None of this seems to apply to the images on your site; they can be loaded quickly, and I can’t see any image hotlinking protection service that may restrict access to your images.

However, since the images are sometimes available, and sometimes not, I think this may be a caching issue; those images may have been inaccessible for a little bit, and Photon may have tried to access those images at that wrong time. However, now that the images can be accessed, the problem should resolve itself.

Could you let me know if the problem still happens tomorrow? If so, could you let me know if it happens for specific images on your site?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I take it then it also has nothing to do with the switch to https?

I have also thought it to be a caching issue, but after purging all caches, server and browser, the problem persists. I am using W3 Total Cache, before I used Wordfence Falcon Engine. Falcon was much more simple, it was either on or off, but with W3 I’m not sure if I have configured it properly. I have just disabled W3 completely right now, same problem, same article. Are you familiar with the W3 configuration options?

I’m going to leave W3 off over night and sleep on it.

    Thanks for the help.

Could it be possible that your images were not accessible at some point during the switch? That would explain things.

Since the images are cached on the Photon CDN servers all over the world, purging your cache locally won’t help, unfortunately.

Let me know how things look tomorrow morning!

I have tried disconnecting and re-connecting Jetpack, no change with the missing images.

I’m also getting some weird errors. When attempting to activate enhanced distribution it tells me my site needs to be publicly accessible?? Umm, it is. People all over the world are looking at it and leaving comments.

I also tried a full re-sync in my wp.com account, that didn’t work either. Something about errors communicating with my site.

With tiled galleries off, the images show as separate small thumbnails. I turn tiled galleries back on, images disappear, and it’s always the same ones that don’t show. Thing is, these missing images have been shown before in a tiled gallery, so it can’t be a sizing issue, can it?

The error I get when trying a full re-sync is cURL error 28. I have contacted my host. Could this be the issue?

    (@sean-h)

Sorry, I should have posted the full error mentioned in my previous post:

The Jetpack site is inaccessible or returned an error: Jetpack: [http_request_failed] cURL error 28: Connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds [-10520]

When it says ‘The Jetpack Site’ exactly which site is it referring to? The actual Jetpack site, or the site on which the Jetpack plugin is being used? (my site in this case)

Now JP galleries are all working fine in Firefox and Safari, but not at all in Chrome, not on our (Macbook) computers or anyone else’s, PC or Mac.

I have removed W3 Total Cache as that was and still is one suspect, I have yet to notice it having any effect on speed, and it’s configuration settings are complicated, so I won’t miss it. I also disabled Wordfence security, for a while, but that has had no effect on galleries. I now have the firewall in learning mode as I can’t have no security for too long.

I am still waiting for my host to get back to me about possible server issues.

As of this moment, I still have little idea as to what is going on.

I see you’ve also contacted us via email, so I’ll let my colleague Cena reply to all your questions!

Yes, I submitted that email from within my jetpack/wordpress dashboard after clicking on debug. I am now busy with my host as I’m certain the problem is there, it’s just a question of convincing them of that. Thanks for your help so far! ??

Thank you Jeremy and Cena for helping me pinpoint the problem! ??

It wasn’t theme or plugin related…

It seems simply increasing the allocated memory for my domain on the (shared) server has fixed the problems with tiled galleries, top posts and related posts images not showing. If you have root access to your server you should be able to do this yourself, otherwise your host will need to do it.

My host has also admitted that they have a rather aggressive security system that was either rate-limiting or blocking IP’s ranges when the server was being attacked. Now this does make me feel quite comfortable that my host takes security very seriously. But they went on to say that blocked IP ranges also, for some strange reason, included those that Jetpack uses. They could not tell me exactly how long such IP ranges were being blocked for. They also say they are looking into permanently whitelisting Jetpack IP’s, but I think a large part of the problem was just a lack of memory on that particular shared server.

In summary, it was a hosting issue, and whatever my host has done has fixed the problem.

I am now running W3 Total Cache and the Wordfence firewall, along with Jetpack and all its cool features without any apparent issues, across multiple browsers on multiple devices ??
