    Hello,
I want to redo my Joomla website in WordPress. I know WordPress and am wondering what is the best method to install it.
I want my Joomla site to keep working while I do the new one in WordPress.
    1. Do I install WordPress in a folder that I would have created in the root ex: WordPress that would be the name of the folder and I build the new site in this folder.
    2. I create a subdomain and I install WordPress in this subdomain ex: version2.leclubalouette.com
    3. I install wordPress in root and then make my new site. It seems to me that the Joomla and WordPress files would be difficult to distinguish.

So when I’m done, do I remove all the files from Joomla in root and transfer the files from the new site to root.

Before I start, I prefer to have your recommendations.

    Thank you

  • Install WordPress on your computer and get the content migrated over, with as little change to the URLs as possible. Make redirects for the ones that change. Test it thoroughly.
Then you can wipe your live site clean, install WordPress, and use a migration plugin to move the site from local to the live site.
Or, you can do basically the same thing, with WordPress in a subfolder of the live site. You can even leave WordPress in the folder and have it control the root when you are ready. But you will have to do a change on any internal links to remove the folder name from them.

If I create a folder in root and transfer all Joomla content to that folder. Is there a way to redirect to this folder in root so that users don’t see any difference then I could create my new site with WordPress directly in root.
As you say I should perhaps modify the links which could be long.

    Thanks

The way I suggested it would leave your existing site working until you switch to the new one. I don’t know anything about Joomla, so I don’t know how to answer your new question.
WordPress can control the root from a folder. Or it can control the folder it is in. (or as multisite, it can control multiple folders or domains)

    Hello,
finally following a recommendation from my host, I created a subdomain and public_html2 as the root folder. when I’m done we’ll just have to change the root folder to the sub-domain.

Joomla is a fairly popular CMS (the second CMS after WordPress by far) but more technical than WordPress.

    Thank you for your support.
