    I was wondering if there was a way stuff on the profile could be displayed within a column the way it’s currently done on https://www.joelonsoftware.com I really like that and wish someone would give me a tip to do that. I am currently working on migrating my blogger.com account over to wordpress.com (I am sick of bloggers downtimes). However, if I do this I’d be missing out on the way blogger shows a “About Me” and a short profile on the front page. With word press there is only “About Me”, and it’s a link to another page, and I can’t find anyway to show my profile on the front page, including a picture. Is this a theme related question? I am a newbie to wordpress. My sites are here:

    You can use the following plugin. You’d write an “About Me” page (which includes text and photo), and use the plugin to display its content on the front page.

    You can also simply modify your sidebar php.
    (I am still a bit new to all of this, but…)
    I think that all that you’d have to do is get your text ready and add it to the sidebar (instead of having a link to your ‘about’, you can simply insert all the text/images you want there.)

    *whap* *whap* – smaks alphaoide and isotrope upside the head….. what part of WordPress.com didn’t click? maybe the part where themes are not modifiable on there?

    1) When it comes to wordpress.com issues…. there’s almost 0 support for it in here since this is support for WordPress the application. How ever, I don’t know if or when the there will be a wordpress.com forum set up.

    2) The themes for wp.com aren’t modifiable. This is because (to the best of my limited knowledge) there’s really only one set of template files out there and everyone gets the same set.

    3) Unfortunately this means you are out of luck.

    So this means I can’t have blooger.com like features on wordpress.com? Also I am a bit confused regarding www.remarpro.com and wordpress.com. I understand that wp.com is a provider of preinstalled wordpress applications and that wp.org is the development community behind WordPress. However are they not related at all? Is there supposed to appear a wp.com support forum sometime soon?

    Another thing is that, I do indeed have my own site (non wordpress.com), if I want About Me and my Profiel to appear on the front page am I better off installing WordPress on my own hosted site? The site is currently here:

    how about a quick fix…
    Is there not a Pages feature?
    Do your About Me there.???

    ravichhabra – related but not the same.

    WordPress is a software blog application (think of it like Word) – it’s something that gets installed and run someplace (in this case, on a webserver). www.remarpro.com is the support forums for that version of WP.

    WordPress.COM is a site similar to Blogger in that you don’t have to worry about installing or administering the database or the WP software. Because of the difference between the two setups, the forums here are not equiped to deal with the problems/frustrations people experience with the .COM site.

    Darcie – there is, but that doesn’t put the profile on the front page.

    OH, then hack the sidebar with php like I have on my blog. I have percent bars there.

    <h2>WIP-ersnappers</h2>
    <?php
    include_once(‘arrow.php’);
    ?>

    woops sorry, I forgot its, wordpress.com ?? I guess that would not work.
