JetPack V4.4.2 with WordPress v4.7: Publicize is not working at all on one site, but on another site with identical setup (including plugins and theme), it’s working fine.

I’m having serious issues with the publicize features on JetPack v4.4.2 and WordPress 4.7. It’s a new install (freshly transferred from WordPress.com to a self-hosted site). I noticed the issue when I went to post the first new blog post with the new system, I discovered that I’m unable to “customize” the publicize message. I’ve turned on all the features, I’ve connected it to my Twitter, Facebook and the like, but when I’m in the post editor window, I’m unable to access any of the publicize customization options. All checkboxes are grayed out, as is the message window.

I’ve tried using multiple browser programmes, thinking that it might have been a fault with my main browser, but I encounter the same issues in both Chrome and Edge.

I’ve attempted to reset the connections (revoking access with particular social media sites, etc.). While it seemed to have worked for the Twitter, it promptly went into a NOT-WORKING state the moment I tried to connect to Facebook. Thinking that Facebook connections were the problem, I reset all connections again, but now Twitter connections don’t work at all. I have attempted “multiple” resets to no avail.

I’ve attempted to post a test post anyway, just to see what would happen… Nothing… No post on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or anywhere and none of my followers were notified of the test either. Basically, if I make a post on my site, none of my followers will get notified and I would need to manually send out notifications on all my social media. (Sort of defeats the purpose of a subscription to blog and the publicize features of JetPack.)

I’ve just configured a second site with the exact same settings (same theme, same plugins, same versions of WordPress and JetPack, and everything works the way it should on that 2nd site, but nothing I try is working on the original site.

I’m not even sure if I’ve configured my JetPack install correctly because of the way it’s behaving. I don’t want to “uninstall” JetPack, as I’m afraid of what that might do with all my followers.

I really need to get this shorted as I have multiple sites that are all now self-hosted. I can’t have the publicize or subscription features failing on me. I’m at a real loss here. HELP!

The site in question where I first noticed the issue is judylmohr.com

UPDATE: I’ve now attempted a “disconnect” and “reconnect” to WordPress.com. Still no luck. However, I am relieved to discover that this didn’t wipe my followers from the system.

Sorry for all the trouble! Let’s see if we can fix all that for you!

I’m unable to access any of the publicize customization options. All checkboxes are grayed out, as is the message window.

The options will be grayed out if you try to use Publicize on a post that’s already been published. Since Publicize is only available for newly published posts, the options aren’t available on posts you published in the past.

Basically, if I make a post on my site, none of my followers will get notified and I would need to manually send out notifications on all my social media.

I had a look at your Publicize logs, and it seems your last post, “The Great Star Trek Vs Star Wars Debate”, as publicized to all your Social Networks properly.

    Do you still experience issues?

Thank you, Jeremy, for your response. After a massive disconnect/reconnect/Google Search/”There has to be an answer” campaign, I finally got it to work.

In the end, it looks as though I had to “deactivate” the All In One SEO plugin, then “reactivate” it. I’m only guessing here, but it looks as though there’s an order to which things should be “activated” or the whole system gets confused.

I have no idea what went wrong or why the order of deactivate/activate made things work, but it did. Thanks for the help anyway.

I’m glad to hear you could figure it out!

it looks as though there’s an order to which things should be “activated” or the whole system gets confused.

This should not matter, as long as you run the latest version of each plugin on your site.

If you experience that issue again, make sure WordPress as well as all your plugins are up to date. If they are, you can post again here and I’ll take a look!

They were up to date. However, what got me thinking that there might have been an issue with the SEO was the posts that JetPack does have some issues with some SEO plugins.

    Only saying.

Jetpack usually plays well with the most popular SEO plugins out there, so no worries there. We’ve actually worked with plugin authors to make sure Jetpack was fully compatible with plugins like Yoast SEO or All In One SEO Pack, for example.
