Jetpack Updated without Permission

    Two of my sites updated Jetpack without permission today. I have all auto-updates turned off, including security fixes, for WordPress and all plugins. What do I need to do to prevent this from happening in the future? I understand that this update was for a critical security fix. But, I’ve had too many times where a “critical security fix” for a plugin broke my site. How do I get Jetpack to warn me of a critical security fix without updating? I would much prefer to update my sites manually once I’m sure the fix doesn’t break something else. Thanks!

    Hi there,

    I suspect there might be a plugin conflict in place if Jetpack updates itself even if you have turned that option off.

    Can you please temporarily deactivate all your plugins and check if the problem gets fixes that way? If it works, then reactivate each plugin one-by-one to find out which one is causing problems.

    I am afraid there is an easy way to do that. What I would suggest is to keep the autoupdates turned off for Jetpack (provided it will stay the way you set up, see above!) and check the logs about every update we release (which we do about once per month).

    If there is a security fix reported in the release, we’ll mention it there, so you can evaluate whether to go for an update or not – which we always recommend doing).

    Thank you for your reply. All updates for all plugins, including Jetpack, are already turned off, and that wasn’t changed by another plugin. I did some searching on the Web and it turns out the Jetpack and WordPress got together and did this as a “forced” update and there’s no way to stop it from happening. A lot of other people are upset about it. So, I figure either there’s nothing we can do about it or someone will convince Jetpack and WordPress that it’s a bad idea. Thanks!
