• Resolved rehwolution

Hi everyone, after a few issues with an integrated email plugin on my 1&1 VPS installation I had a few pathfinding errors that took me several days to fix. Everything works fine now, but Jetpack doesn’t want to activate anymore after reinstalling all of my plugins.
I tried removing the plugin by removing from the Plug-In panel in my website wp-admin, and using the Jetpack Debug Tools it says “Can not resolve your domain “A record””.
I’m sure my A record works just fine ’cause my website is up and running but can’t do anything about jetpack.
I even tried removing the website from the WordPress.com dashboard but it still shows the same issue. Could you help me with that?
Thanks a lot, and happy new year!

  • Hi @rehwolution and happy new year!

I can see that error on the Jetpack Debug tool you’ve mentioned; however, it seems that the URL of your site wasn’t saved to the right one on our end, so I’ve gone ahead and adjusted that.

I can confirm that Jetpack is disconnected on your site now, but I’d suggest reconnecting it so we can take a second look into that. You can find the steps below to reconnect Jetpack:

Hi @muffinpeace , happy new year to you as well!
Unfortunately I followed the steps showed in the link you mentioned and I still get the same error. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I still get the “Unable to insert blog. Please try again or contact support.”…

    Any tips?

    Hi @rehwolution

We cannot access your site’s XML-RPC file, which is needed for our connection:

    * https://www.rehwolution.it/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack

The link above must return the following message:

XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.

You can see a working example here: https://jetpack.me/xmlrpc.php

Since your site returns an error for this page, please check the following:

    * Can you see the /xmlrpc.php file at the root of your WordPress installation when accessing your site via FTP (if you’re not sure what this means, please ask your hosting customer support for a hand)? If you don’t, then please try re-installing WordPress. You can do this by going to the Dashboard → Upgrades page, then clicking the “Reinstall WordPress” button.

    * Do you use any security plugins that may block access to this file? If so, could you try to disable them? You might also want to check your site’s .htaccess file for any rules that might be blocking access to the xmlrpc.php file. Again, if you’re not sure what this means, your host customer support should be able to lend a hand.

    * Does your hosting provider block access to this file? If you don’t find any plugin that may block access to the file on your site, I would recommend that you get in touch with your hosting support and ask them to allow Jetpack to access xmlrpc.php.

Once we are able to access your site’s xmlrpc.php file, you should be able to connect Jetpack to WordPress.com:

    * **https://jetpack.com/support/reconnecting-reinstalling-jetpack**

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle

Hi @deathlynotes , I can actually see the XML-RPC file, since my website is in a subfolder it goes like this: https://www.rehwolution.it/wordpress/xmlrpc.php

I read around that it happens to give out an error when installed into a subfolder, is that the case?

    Hello @rehwolution

The file xmlrpc.php must be on the site root to work correctly.

Please, move it to the correct place and try to reconnect the site.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    (@rehwolution)

Hi @deathlynotes, I moved it and nothing changed, except for the fact that now the debug tool doesn’t find it anymore. I get a 404.

    Hi there,

I’ve taken some time to look into this and I found that while your site loads at https://www.rehwolution.it, it doesn’t load at https://rehwolution.it. In other words, your site is accessible at the www subdomain but not at the root domain. I suppose this is what is confusing Jetpack.

You may need to check that your DNS is configured properly. Also, under Settings > General, confirm that your Site URL and Home URL are filled in correctly and match. Once those are resolved, try reconnecting Jetpack again.

Let us know how that goes.

Hi @ihenetudan @deathlynotes @muffinpeace, It seems like Daniel’s finding helped me solve the issue (and a couple more issues I was having but that were unrelated to Jp). It’s working just fine now, but unfortunately it seems like I lost the stats from the previous connection. Is there any way to combine those?

    Hi there

I’m afraid it seems no stats were collected between Dec 11th – Jan 4th, so we don’t have any way to restore those.

Sorry I can’t be more help here.

Alright, thanks anyways. The important thing is that it works now and you actually helped me with a collateral issue as well. Happy new year again, thanks a lot!
