    Hi,

I am rebuilding my site from scratch, and re-setting up woocommerce. I was at the 6 step setup stage, and woo says I will need jetpack to calculate sales tax.

So, I clicked Next to go through the steps it wanted me to do and see https://snipboard.io/ln6thJ.jpg

I then went to https://wordpress.com/, and see I’m signed in as https://wordpress.com/home/nutritionbyeric.wordpress.com.

I then went back to the setup steps. Seemed to complete the 6 step process. No other errors or barking by woo.

Do I really need jetpack for this? Since there are no more errors or steps telling me to sign out from wordpress.com, or use another account, is this anything I should be concerned of?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @pranaman

    Thanks for reaching out!

First, let me clarify that while Jetpack can be a helpful tool for calculating sales tax, it is not the only option available. There are other tax calculation plugins available that you can use if you prefer not to use Jetpack. Some popular alternatives include TaxJar and Avalara.

Regarding the setup process you’ve mentioned, it seems that you’ve successfully completed the 6-step process without any issues. If you haven’t encountered any further errors or prompts to sign out from WordPress.com, there’s no need to be concerned. WooCommerce should be set up correctly on your site.

However, if you still wish to use Jetpack for tax calculations, you can install and activate the plugin from the WordPress plugin repository. Once activated, you can connect your Jetpack account to your WooCommerce store, and you should be able to utilize its tax calculation features.

In summary, you don’t necessarily need Jetpack for tax calculations, but it is an option available to you. If you’ve completed the setup process without any issues, there’s no need to worry about signing out from WordPress.com or using a different account.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @xue28,

Thank you for your reply. I’ve deleted jetpack. Will I need TaxJar, Avalara, or a pluging like that, so tax gets calculated for sales?

    Hi,

WooCommerce offers some alternatives for tax calculation, for example:

    1. WooCommerce Shipping & Tax: It provides automated tax calculations, allows for printing of USPS and Canada Post labels at discounted rates. It includes an automated tax calculation feature.

    2. TaxJar for WooCommerce: It enables automatic sales tax calculation for all your WooCommerce sales, provides detailed reporting, and integrates with various payment gateways.

    3. Avalara AvaTax: It calculates the final sales tax amount on every invoice. It also delivers real-time tax calculations.

    4. EU VAT Number: It provides VAT (Value Added Tax) validation for EU countries.

Each of them have their own benefits, I recommend exploring them to see which is the one that best fists your needs.
