That sounds like a server issue to me. Try contacting your hosts.

I get the same error and i host my own server, how can i find more info on what the problem is? Something like jetpack logs ??

GnuTLS recv error (-9): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
It doesn’t timeout in my case.

Wow, that’s a new one to me as well. It just happened on a brand new site with PHP 5.3. I first suspected it was the cache playing havok, but I disabled it and the error persisted.

What distro are you using?

Having worked perfectly for months, Jetpack started giving me the exact error message after I installed PHP 5.3 without XCache (inability to configure w/XCache on my vps @ Dreamhost). The problem continued to persist until I re-configured back to 5.2 with XCache…in an instant the problem vanished. No more error messages and JetPack is a breeze again…

I’m having the same problem and I’m also using a Dreamhost VPS with PHP 5.3.x with Fast CGI, no X-Cache also.

Has anyone resolved this and/or talked to Dreamhost about it?

I just rolled back from php 5.3 to 5.2 and the error disappeared.

The problem is that i cannot downgrade php on my server.

Well well. This seems indeed to be a bug with PHP 5.3, so I downgraded to 5.2, and connected flawlessly to WordPress.com — and then turned 5.3 back again (it’s much, much better at managing memory!).

I suppose this ought to be pushed somewhere to the PHP bug list, I guess…

I had the same problem, and upgrading or downgrading PHP had no impact. What did fix this was using the Core Control plugin to change WordPress’ list of allowed transports. The gory details are here:
