    Hey there,

i am hosting a www.remarpro.com blog on the free funpic.de-webspace provider, i installed the jetpack-plugin and when i tried to connect it to wordpress.com. I received following message:

    J

etpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.

GnuTLS recv error (-9): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.

    I appreciate every help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • That sounds like a server issue to me. Try contacting your hosts.

    Hello,
I get the same error and i host my own server, how can i find more info on what the problem is? Something like jetpack logs ??
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply, but i have a different error:
GnuTLS recv error (-9): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
It doesn’t timeout in my case.

Wow, that’s a new one to me as well. It just happened on a brand new site with PHP 5.3. I first suspected it was the cache playing havok, but I disabled it and the error persisted.

    What distro are you using?

Having worked perfectly for months, Jetpack started giving me the exact error message after I installed PHP 5.3 without XCache (inability to configure w/XCache on my vps @ Dreamhost). The problem continued to persist until I re-configured back to 5.2 with XCache…in an instant the problem vanished. No more error messages and JetPack is a breeze again…

I’m having the same problem and I’m also using a Dreamhost VPS with PHP 5.3.x with Fast CGI, no X-Cache also.

    Same problem.

    Also Dreamhost VPS etc.

Has anyone resolved this and/or talked to Dreamhost about it?

I’m not on Dreamhost, so i would like to know how to resolve this issue on my server,
    thank you.

I just rolled back from php 5.3 to 5.2 and the error disappeared.

The problem is that i cannot downgrade php on my server.

Well well. This seems indeed to be a bug with PHP 5.3, so I downgraded to 5.2, and connected flawlessly to WordPress.com — and then turned 5.3 back again (it’s much, much better at managing memory!).

I suppose this ought to be pushed somewhere to the PHP bug list, I guess…

Here is the set up I have and I am still having the same issue:

    php -version
    PHP 5.2.17p1 (cli) (built: Mar 9 2012 10:21:27)
Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies
with eAccelerator v0.9.6.1, Copyright (c) 2004-2010 eAccelerator, by eAccelerator
with the ionCube PHP Loader v4.0.12, Copyright (c) 2002-2011, by ionCube Ltd., and
with Zend Optimizer v3.3.9, Copyright (c) 1998-2009, by Zend Technologies

On another VPS, here is the set up I have and I have the same issue as well:

    php -version
    PHP 5.3.8 (cli) (built: Sep 24 2011 00:52:34)
Copyright (c) 1997-2011 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2011 Zend Technologies
with eAccelerator v0.9.6.1, Copyright (c) 2004-2010 eAccelerator, by eAccelerator
with the ionCube PHP Loader v4.0.10, Copyright (c) 2002-2011, by ionCube Ltd., and
with Zend Guard Loader v3.3, Copyright (c) 1998-2010, by Zend Technologies

I am just wondering if this has anything to do with the PHP caching software I have….

I had the same problem, and upgrading or downgrading PHP had no impact. What did fix this was using the Core Control plugin to change WordPress’ list of allowed transports. The gory details are here:

    Hope this helps!
