    Hello,
Just had a quick question. I’ve recently updated to WordPress 4.2.2 and found out that I had stupidly pasted my Google Analytics code twice into my site (!). Once I fixed that, Jetpack stats are about double that of Analytics. Before they were quite comparable, with Jetpack being just a teensy bit lower. I’d love to believe Jetpack, but I can’t just disregard this huge difference. Any thoughts?

Disclaimer: I’m a food blogger, not a coding expert ??

    Thanks in advance ??

    Hi there!

There are 2 main differences between Jetpack Stats and Google Analytics:

    1. By default, Jetpack doesn’t record visits from logged in users. That includes all page views you can generate when viewing your site while being logged in. You can check this behaviour by clicking on “Configure” under the Stats module in the Jetpack menu.
    2. Jetpack Stats automatically exclude visits from bots and spiders that crawl your site but are not “real” visitors.

This could explain the differences between the 2 stats services on your site. There could also be a problem with the way the Stats tracking code is added to your site though – did you manually add the GA tracking code, or are you using a plugin? If you’re using a plugin, can you let me know which one, so I can take a closer look?

Let me know if you have any questions.

I manually added the GA tracking code to my website. My website was hacked a few weeks ago and this difference only presented itself after the restore. I checked and the Jetpack isn’t counting admin pageviews. I know that Jetpack stats are supposed to be a little lower than GA in general, so that’s why it’s so confusing that Jetpack is so much higher than GA.

I took a look at your stats on our end and nothing is standing out as being unusual – it appears to all be organic traffic from sites you’ve guest blogged on, Pinterest, Facebook, etc. I also checked to make sure that our stats tracking code was displaying properly, and I didn’t see anything unusual.

Since the problem started right after your site hack/restore – it’s quite possible that the GA tracking code isn’t working properly. If their tracking code was somehow corrupted or if it wasn’t re-implemented properly – it may not be loading on every page view.

Would you be willing to remove the manual code in your site and add it using this plugin instead?

Then, see if that has any impact on what GA is reporting. I’d like to rule this out first before digging into this further, since nothing on our end shows a dramatic increase in your historical stats.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok just did that; I removed the tracking code and re installed it via the Yoast plugin. Hopefully that will fix it; I’ll give it a day to see.

Yay it worked; Jetpack and GA stats are now comparable. The issue must have been that I had the tracking code installed via the functions.php file. I must have done it wrong because it wasn’t loading every pageview. Thanks for your help!

Yay! Glad to hear it’s working for you. Happy to help. ??

Let us know if we can help with anything related to the Jetpack plugin in the future.

    Cheers!
