    Hi There,

We’ve got Jetpack Social Media Sharing enabled, however it seems to go around in loops without giving any options on how to configure.

If I click on settings it just goes to wordpress.com and says that we have no web sites, and only offers to register domain of new sites …

If I click on Social Media Sharing it just says ‘next’ and loops back to the same page.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,

The Jetpack connection for your site is good and is also connected WordPress.com account. Could you please check if you are landing to the same WordPress.com account to which you connected Jetpack?

If you are, then the settings to configure sharing button will be here: https://wordpress.com/marketing/sharing-buttons/put-your-site-address-here.com

Alternatively, you can configure them in WP-Admin here too: https://put-your-site-address-here.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing

    Hi Animesh,

Thank you. It’s quite possible that it’s not the same WordPress.com account to which we connected Jetpack, so I’ll check that.

However, that said, my client wants to be able to install Jet Pack Social Media Sharing on 3 of this sites. Does that mean that each site will have to have it’s own account on WordPress.com?

Nope, not necessarily ?? If your client wants to manage several sites by using the same WordPress.com, they can surely do it. They can connect as many Jetpack sites as they want on their own WordPress.com account, so they don’t need multiple accounts unless they want them on purpose ??
    Hope that answers your question!

With that said, I echo my colleague Animesh in suspecting that the issue you reported might be caused by the fact that the Jetpack connection is owned by a different WordPress.com account, so they cannot access the Social media / Connection settings in the WordPress.com account.

Let us know how your tests go in that regard, and if you have any other questions or need some more help.

    Hi Stef,

    Thank you for responding.

So I think I’ve managed to do that but it’s not entirely clear.

When I go into the publicise settings on WordPress.com I get a page with a listing of the social media platforms, right now we’re only interested in Facebook … (https://imgur.com/5f6Krvj.png). It shows the main site, with a tick next to it, meaning that it’s connected to FB and that it will publish content to this site once a post is published on the site. However what’s confusing is that there is a button that says ‘Connect one more account’. I click that and continue as the main user. Then it shows a modal pop up window that says:

    ‘Connecting Facebook
Select the account you’d like to connect. All your new blog posts will be automatically shared to this account. You’ll be able to change this option in the editor sidebar when you’re writing a post.’

It seems that only one site is connected, and that’s the main one, but the others, even though they are listed, above the line that says ‘connected’ (https://imgur.com/PdMKsm1.png), it looks like they won’t be showing the latest post when it’s published on the site bu only the FB page that is connected (the one below the line ‘connected’. Is that right?

Or have I got that wrong and the site will publish to all those FB pages when I post the article on our site?

    Thanks,
    M

That’s correct, only the account listed as “connected” will have the latest posts published.

OK, so just to clarify then, if I want my wordpress site to post to various FB pages then that’s not possible, correct?

If I want to post a blog post when it gets published from one of my wordpress sites to an FB page then each instance of these connections will need to have a separate login, correct?

    Hi @millo_magno,

It is possible, but not simultaneously. One site can connect to one Facebook page at a time. This means that if you are the administrator of multiple Facebook pages, you can see them all upon connecting Facebook to your site on the Connection settings page, but you can connect more than one page at the same time.

You can read more about that on this page.

If I want to post a blog post when it gets published from one of my wordpress sites to an FB page then each instance of these connections will need to have a separate login, correct?

That is possible: you will need to have multiple WordPress.com accounts connected to the Jetpack site. Each account would be connected with a different Facebook page, and they should all have admin permissions to be able to use the Publicize feature.

Alternatively, from this very WordPress.com you have now, if you need to publish the same content on different Facebook pages, you would need to disconnect and reconnect different Facebook pages every time, which is not very handy.

Instead, I’d recommend setting one Facebook page in the Connection section, which would automatically publish the post on Facebook once it’s published on the site. Then you can use the sharing buttons on the post itself to share the post on Facebook.

    Hope that answers your question!

OK I’ve gone with the option of having multiple WordPress.com accounts. Each account connected with a different Facebook page.

And it’s worked fine for two of the sites

    However …

One one site it takes me to the wordpress.com site and says ‘You don’t have any WordPress sites yet. Would you like to start one?’ so I hit ‘Create Site’.

Asks me to choose a domain …

    I say I already have a domain …

I type in the domain name …

    It gives me two options:

‘Transfer my domain’ or ‘Connect yor domain’

either one try to get me to sign up to a paid plan!

How do I just connect like I have with the other two sites? I’ve not had to pay for those.
