Jetpack sitemap + Yoast sitemap

    Hello, I want to enable the jetpack sitemap to work together with the free Yoast plugin for the sake of the news_sitemap available on jetpack. Will that mess up my SEO?

    Hello Zark,

    Thanks for your question about sitemaps.

    We don’t recommend having multiple sitemap plugins on your site. If you have a 3rd party XML sitemap and Yoast SEO sitemap on your site simultaneously, you may experience unexpected behavior.

    I recently turned off my Jetpack sitemap because I read that having two may cause issues. I have the Yoast one on as I thought that would be better but since then my rankings have dropped. I’m hoping they will improve again soon, seems risky to do any changes I think.

    I also had quite a few URLs suddenly go 404 around the same time. Had to redirect over 30 of them as I had warnings from Search Console. I’m really hoping I didn’t make things worse and that my rankings will eventually improve again.
