Jetpack SEO: Most important pages not indexed in 6 weeks

    Hi Jetpack developers,

    Please help me out because I do not understand the poor results in Google search indexing.

    Many pages and archives that WordPress creates automatically are indexed, while the most important pages and blog articles that I have written over weeks are not. I had to submit them manually to get half of them listed. I also had to submit the sitemap manually, repeatedly, as Google could not find it, and it does not seem to update in real time.

    Bing complains that the pages would start with so much meta information that the content cannot be fully crawled.

    Am I using it wrong with i.e. long meta titles and descriptions (that may not be fully displayed in Google, but they are on social media when shared)? Or is something fundamentally flawed with your SEO approach, as some suggest on reddit?

    What I like about Jetpack SEO is that it adds itself lean to the Gutenberg editor, doesn’t tell me how to write, provides no-index on a page level and social media previews. I also like the ease of use and that Sensei courses and lessons are generally excluded from indexing; only for products I am searching for a similar solution as I am writing the salespages on pages, and use the product just for checkout.

    p.s. Another issue is an “failed to update meta …” error message when saving a page or post. This seems to be a false error as everything is actually saved. But it prevents the “view page/post” link from showing up.

    I see from our records that Jetpack’s sitemap feature is turned off for your site. Your sitemap file is currently being generated by a third-party plugin (Yoast SEO).

    We encourage users to refrain from using multiple plugins to manage their sitemaps simultaneously. More on that here: https://jetpack.com/support/sitemaps/#plugins.

    Therefore, I encourage you either to keep using the third-party plugin or disable the third-party plugin and enable Jetpack’s sitemap feature as shown here: https://jetpack.com/support/sitemaps/#turn-sitemaps-on.

    Please let us know if you’re still having issues with your sitemap once your site is exclusively using Jetpack’s sitemap feature.

    Managing your site’s SEO footprint and deciding on different approaches to your meta description / keywords is something that should be decided by your specific goals and the platform(s) you’re trying to target (Bing in this case).

    Thank you for reaching out.

    Re. error message in the editor: As I have deactivated Jetpack, I cannot provide a screenshot. With Jetpack SEO on, it was an irregular occuring error message that seemed to be a false one as the content and meta was actually always saved. But it produced an autosave instead of a real revision.

    Re. page indexing: I have switched to another SEO plugin and fixed some issues that I have caused by using the blank template that suppresses the H1 title as well as unneccessary redirects. It is too early to tell, if site indexing works better overall with the new tool. But what I would like to encourage Jetpack to consider is an easy option to deactivate entire custom post types, archives etc. from indexing and offering a no-index option for individual posts and pages from the overview. The sitemap could also be improved to list the pages, posts plus user selected custom post types and taxonomies. This way we could communicate more efficiently to search engines, what content we prefer to see indexed.

    You can find the option on the Jetpack options on the Block editor:

    Regarding the Custom Post Types, Jetpack includes by default on its Sitemap the following: Posts, Pages Portfolios, Testimonials, Simple Food Menus, and Comics.

    There is a way to modify the custom types included on the Sitemap, but it will need some coding. You can read more here:
