Jetpack said it was backing up, but could not restore

I was until today a paying subscriber. Every day Jetpack reported it successfully backed up my site. But this week, for the first time, I needed to restore the site. That’s when I found out that Jetpack was not in fact connected correctly, so Jetpack failed to restore.
