Hello, love your plugins, hoping you can help.

On pages and posts that do NOT have a featured image, Publicize’s ‘share to facebook’ button is still sharing an image. It’s one that does not even appear on that page/post. Please see example https://rotarycentreforthearts.com/rentals/equipment-rental/

The incorrect image being shared is always the same one, and it’s one that is featured in a single event post.

Is this a bug? Is there a setting in Publicize where I could set a featured image for posts that do not have one?

We also have ‘Facebook Open Graph, Google+ and Twitter Card Tags’ plugin installed. I have tried disabling it to see if that makes a difference, but it doesn’t. Is it redundant to have this plugin installed? Does publicize already include the open graph tags that are needed to properly share?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

When you share a post on Facebook, or when Jetpack Publicize publishes a post to your Facebook page, Facebook crawls the page and looks for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete post preview (with an image, title, description, …).

Jetpack automatically creates these Open Graph Meta tags for you unless you already use another Open Graph plugin, in which case we let the other plugin handle things. Looking at your site, you seem to be using the Facebook Open Graph, Google+ and Twitter Card Tags plugin to handle Open Graph meta tags.

I’d consequently suggest that you check the plugin settings to see if you can set up a default image for posts that do not include a Featured Image.

If you’d rather use Jetpack’s Open Graph Meta tags, you can disable the Facebook Open Graph, Google+ and Twitter Card Tags plugin. There will then be multiple methods for you to set up a default image:

    1. By adding a Site Logo
    2. By adding a Site Icon. You can do so by by going to Appearance -> Customize and clicking on Site Identity.
    3. With a code snippet, as explained in this post.

    Dear Jeremy,

we have the same problem since a few weeks (the last wp-update?).

Before always the featured- / article-image was published at Facebook, that was perfect.

I have no idea about “open Graph” and therefore I not really understand your answer above, sorry.

Perhaps you can take a look to both sites?

…and now please try it with simple words for me ??

    Thank you very much!

Forgot to say thanks for your response Jeremy. I removed Facebook Open Graph, Google+ and Twitter Card Tags as it did seem to be conflicting with other plugins. Appreciate your solutions, all the best.
