    hi,

once we have placed the subscription widget for people to subscribe via email too our blog:

    1. is it possible to set the time and the day when Jetpack emails our subscribers (that was very easy with Feedburner) ?

    2. Jetpack widget displays (above the email address field) the number of subscribers we already have. Is it possible to deactivate this functionality (I’m starting a blog with 1 subscriber, i don’t want newcomers to know how many subscribers i already have!) ?

    Thanks.

  • It’s currently not possible to set the delivery schedule for your new post notifications. However you subscribers can set their own preference for receiving instant, daily, or weekly updates by visiting https://subscribe.wordpress.com .

You can exclude the number of subscribers from appearing in the subscription widget by un-checking the box “Show total number of subscribers?” in the widget options.

    hi debeckett,

Thank you very much for your help ??

What happens if my subscribers don’t go set their own preference for receiving updates (i’m pretty sure most of them won’t since they aren’t members of wordpress.com)?

Have you got any idea of when, more or less, Jetpack decides on its own to send updates to our subscribers?

If your subscribers have not changed their settings for delivery, notifications of your new posts will be delivered to them immediately. In practice this normally means within about a minute or two after you click the “Publish” button on a new post.

oh well, can’t make any mistake though…

    thanks again!

I would suggest to set your Reading Settings “For each article in a feed” to show a summary instead of full text. This sets your notifications to also display only an excerpt instead of your full post content. Your followers can then click through to read the full post.

That way if you do notice a typo or something else you want to change, you still can. If you make an update a minute or two after first publishing your post, it’s likely that most of your subscribers probably won’t have received the email notification and clicked through already.

    yes that’s very clever :-)))

    note:
i had already set my Reading Settings to show a summary but not for that purpose, only in order not to bore my subscribers in case they don’t like the first para of my last post

    hi again,

may i ask you another question: does Jetpack provide us with the feed of our blog/comments?

it seems that for those who are not hosted at wordpress.com the answer is no but i prefer to check with you.

I’d like to place a chicklet for those who subscribe with an RSS reader. (i’m currently using another service for that which lets me know how many people subscribe this way).

All WordPress sites include a feed of your posts and comments. Usually you can see this by simply adding /feed to the end of your site URL, like this:

    https://yoursite.com/feed/

    And comments would be here:

    https://yoursite.com/comments/feed/

You don’t need Jetpack for that, but please let me know if I’ve misunderstood your question ??

    no, you perfectly understood.

i just assumed these “default” feed don’t give us any information about our subscribers. they just allow visitors to follow us via their RSS Reader, right?

the (free) service i’m currently using (obviously not Feedburner) provides me with this type of information.
if Jetpack could do so, i could have all in the same basket (email subscribers & RSS reader subscribers).

    thanks

I see. No, the default RSS feed doesn’t include any information about who is following it. Jetpack does show you who has subscribed but the subscriber has to subscribe by using the Subscribe widget on your site.
