I’m using Jetpack in my site and turned on the feature to let users like my pages and posts. However, the like button isn’t appearing. Jetpack is updated to 7.1 and I tried deactivating all other plugins and switching the theme to Twenty-Nineteen. Still won’t appear. Any help would be appreciated.

We’re being blocked from accessing https://scripturenotes.com/xmlrpc.php which Jetpack requires to function.

Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

If you are using any security plugins, please try connecting with those temporarily deactivated. If you don’t have any, or if that didn’t work, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress.

Hi again, I spoke with my host and they enabled the https://scripturenotes.com/xmlrpc.php file. I still couldn’t get the like button/bar to show up. I deactivated all my plugins and it still wouldn’t appear. What do I do next?

P.S. I can see the like button option in the post editor, but nothing shows up on posts.

    Hi there,

Please make sure that the Add sharing buttons to your posts toggle is turned on in Jetpack > Settings > Sharing

Then head to https://wordpress.com/sharing/buttons/scripturenotes.com to make the adjustments you like.

Will the Like button not show unless the Share bar is activated? I turned it on and now I see both.

The “options” setting here is actually a toggle for the whole feature (sharing buttons and likes.)

But you can turn off likes or buttons on individual posts and pages. Or, if you definitely never want to show sharing buttons, you could simply edit sharing buttons at https://wordpress.com/sharing/buttons/ and turn all of them off. Then only likes will appear, regardless of sharing settings on individual posts or pages.

Want to give that a go?

Yes, I’ll play with this. Thank you for your help.
