The WYSIWYG update now converts markdown to HTML.

We really need this behaviour reverted, it prevents us from editing posts with our existing workflow. If a customer has selected to use Markdown this should be respected, or at least have an easy to access option to retain the original behavior.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into issues.

Could you walk me through the steps I can follow to try to reproduce? Does that happen when editing existing posts, or when hitting publish or saving a new draft? Do you switch between the Visual and the HTML editor at any time in the process? Could you also let me know if you use a third-party editor, or only the editor in your dashboard? Could you finally let me know what other plugins are currently active on your site?

I’ve tried publishing new posts, editing existing ones, both with the Visual and the HTML editor, but I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue so far. I know I’ve asked quite a lot of questions above, sorry about that, but hopefully that should help me reproduce the problem on one of my own sites to try to understand what happened. ??

    Thanks!

Either create a new post as markdown on the site or via an app.

Edit the post via the WYSIWYG – editing markdown elements converts them to HTML.

It appears to be an interaction between the WYSIWYG changes in 4.3 and jetpack markdown.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I just tried publishing a new post, and then editing it, using the Visual Editor in my dashboard on a site running WordPress 4.3.1 and Jetpack 3.8. Unfortunately I couldn’t reproduce the issue:

Could you let me know if you do anything differently on your end?

It’s also worth noting that if you write in Markdown, it’s often best to switch to the Text Editor here, to avoid any kind of issues with WordPress’ Visual Editor, as it is built to sanitize elements like some of the ones you could use when writing Markdown:
