    Hi folks,
any ideas on how to lower how much CPU JetPack is eating up?

Our server normally runs on 2 Cores / 2GB RAM. The site itself has between 50k-570k hits per month (if an article gets unusually high traffic we get a temporary boost to 4 cores / 4GB RAM), and until recently everything has run pretty smoothly.

Over the last month, 250 visitors sends the CPU in meltdown (98-100% usage), until I turn off JetPack and then it goes back down to around 9-14% usage.

Any ideas on why this could be happening as it’s driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance and happy new year ??

Make sure that you’re only using the Jetpack modules you want.

Most of Jetpack is designed to speed up your site by taking load off of your server, like our site accelerator https://jetpack.com/support/site-accelerator/ or stats https://jetpack.com/support/wordpress-com-stats/ subscriptions https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/ and related posts https://jetpack.com/support/related-posts/ which are all processed on our end (rather than hammering your database as these features traditionally do).

With that said though, the more Jetpack modules you add, the more your site has to initially process, just like it would if you added a separate plugin for the features, so always make sure you’re only using the features you want.

Regarding overall speed and load, here’s an excellent independent report: https://mattreport.com/jetpack-speed/

I wonder perhaps if something is conflicting with Jetpack, thus resulting in the spike.

Do you have the same problem when Jetpack is the only active plugin?

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

We couldn’t test it by having Jetpack on and nothing else as it’s a news site and there’s usually a minimum of 100 people on it at all times which then shoots up to around 500-1000. It would suck if they suddenly saw everything go tits up lol

We’ve since migrated to a new server/host that won’t restrict our resources but at the same time doesn’t give us a way to monitor CPU/RAM usage either, so we’re just going to do what we can until we come up with a better solution.

We’ll certainly check into the site accelerator etc.

    Thanks for your help.
